Don’t Miss Our 50th Anniversary Kickoff!

Jan

04

Please join us as we celebrate our past, present and future.  We begin our yearlong celebration of The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens 50th Anniversary by hosting our Kick-Off Event on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Our Chairs, Laura Magevney and Lisa Page, along with their committee, have planned an exciting evening.    The theme of our 50th Anniversary is “50 Forward” representing our desire to honor our past as we look forward to an exciting future.

Highlights of our evening include The Cummer Legacy, an exhibition that displays for the first time in one gallery the works of art that comprise the original pieces of The Cummer collection.  When the museum opened in 1961, the nucleus of its permanent collection consisted of 60 works of art collected by Ninah and Arthur Cummer.  A selection of these paintings and sculptures will be highlighted in the Jacobsen Gallery to honor the legacy of the Cummer family.

We are also pleased to unveil a restored Tudor Room gallery.  The Tudor Room incorporates paneling, flooring, furnishings, a fireplace, and a selection of art from the Cummers’ home to recreate the domestic sphere in which their collection was originally displayed.  Archival photographs and documents in the Millner Gallery will further illustrate how the Cummers’ lived with their collection.

Through our partnership with Players by the Sea, a theatrical presentation on the life of Ninah Cummer will be performed in both the Tudor Room and the Jacobsen Gallery.   Our guests will hear Ninah Cummer discuss her life, home and art collection in descriptive vignettes.

We hope you will join us and be a part of our celebration! Along with introducing the restored Tudor Room, new exhibit of the original pieces of The Cummer Collection, and a theatrical presentation of Ninah Cummer by Players by the Sea, we will have live music and hors d’oeuvres.

RSVP by Monday, January 10 to Wendy Stanley at (904) 899-6007 or wstanley@cummer.org.  Our celebration is free to our members and $10.00 for our Non-member guests.
