On February 21, the The Betsy and William D. Lovett Gallery of 18th Century Art closed for renovation. This gallery also contains the museum’s renown collection of early 18th Century Meissen Porcelain. As these photographs demonstrate, the Curatorial Department moved over 400 pieces of Meissen, many paintings, and furniture into art storage. Over the next few months new cases will be installed, artwork will be rearranged and once this gallery reopens to the public on May 13th, it will feature a new presentation including increased interpretation and technology.

Mini Meissen Display in the Semmes Gallery
Just in case you miss seeing the Meissen Collection during the renovation, we have installed a “mini” display case of Meissen in the The Eunice Pitt Odom Semmes & George Wingfield Semmes Gallery. It consists of a Coffeepot, Teapot, Tea Caddy and Cup and Saucer with yellow fond. Hopefully, this will satisfy your appetite for Meissen until May.
