How to Prepare before coming to Miradas: Grown-Ups Edition

Jun

18

Our newest exhibition, Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern and Contemporary Mexican Art – works from the Bank of America Collection, is full of history, politics, and culture.  If you would like to enrich your experience of the exhibit, try doing a few of the things on this list before your next visit:

1. READ!!!

  •  Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, by Isabel Alcantara & Sandra Egnolff
  • In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States, by Ilene Susan Fort & Tere Arcq, with Terri Geis
Both of these books can be found in The Museum Store.

2. WATCH…

the movie Frida, for a look into the art, politics, and culture of Modern Mexico.  In addition, you will get a look at the relationship between Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two of the most influential artists from this time period.

3. EAT

Cook your own Mexican cuisine with great recipes online, or go out for dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant.  I will be making a few of the following myself:

Jicama Chili Sticks

Baja Black Beans, Corn, and Rice

Chili Relleños

4. Drink

Cafe de Olla – Sweet Cinnamon Coffee

Mexican Chupacabra Martini

Ponche Navideño – Mexican Holiday Punch

Horchata de Arroz – Refreshing Mexican rice beverage
