“Ink, Silk, and Gold” at the Cummer Shop

Jun

29

The Cummer Shop offers a variety of merchandise for each of its special exhibitions, and Ink, Silk, and Gold is no exception.

The exhibition catalogue for Ink, Silk, and Gold: Islamic Treasures from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is now available in the Cummer Shop.

This beautiful publication explores the dynamic and complex traditions of Islamic art through more than 115 major works in a dazzling array of media, reproduced in full color and exquisite detail—manuscripts inscribed with gold, paintings on silk, elaborate metalwork, intricately woven textiles, luster-painted ceramics, and more. These objects, which originated within an Islamic world that ranges from Western Europe to Indonesia and across more than thirteen centuries, share a distinctive relationship to the materials they are made of; their color, shape, texture, and technique of production all convey meaning. Enhanced by texts from an international team of scholars and drawing on the latest technical information, “Ink Silk & Gold” is an inviting introduction to the riches of the Islamic art collection now on display at the Cummer Museum and a window into a vibrant global culture. Regular price is $45, and Member price is $40.50.

With artisan products chosen specifically for Ink, Silk, and Gold the Cummer Shop is also spotlighting handmade items from countries where Islam is a major cultural influence. You will find curated handcrafts from Turkey, Morocco, India, and Egypt.

Find treasures throughout the shop, including decorative and functional items, books, and wearable art like scarves and jewelry.

These mosaic lamps are handmade using recycled colored glass and beads with a brass base and 8-foot cord with switch. They make a lovely addition to any home with their unique design and colors.

You can also find a variety of hand-painted ceramics. From mugs and bowls, to decorative tiles and platters, every item is beautifully and uniquely handmade. Patterns, color, and sizes may vary, but all bowls, mugs, and platters are food safe.
