Mark Creegan ‘s 32 minute loop, SD video Too Sensitive,  will be in the Our Shared Past exhibition, on view in the Stein Gallery from December 17, 2013 to May 25, 2014.

A statement from the artist:

“I took the title of the exhibition Our Shared Past quite literally. The video is comprised of still images of every image Jef provided. Each image has been cropped to show some hidden detail. I edited the video to show each image in eleven second increments. The added audio is a recording from 1980 of a psychic reading of my mother. This recording is one of the only documents I have of her life. In combining these, I want to make a very specious, odd take on my family’s past overlapped with similar elements from Jef’s. So much of our recollection of our past is fragmentary and inaccurate. A cropped, pixelated image from a still image of family movie is a fitting illustration of our own mental recollection. And a random interpretation of a life by a psychic can be just as telling as our own self-stories. “

There will be artist appearances at the Stein Gallery January through April. Each Saturday, artists from the exhibition will be in the Gallery from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Others will make appearances throughout the day on Weaver Free Saturdays, and on Tuesday evenings during the exhibition.
