On Friday, June 28th, The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens held its first ever Movie Night at The Cummer! The concept was simple–bring together families in Jacksonville to enjoy a warm Florida summer night and the slight breeze from the St. Johns River while watching a movie under the stars. On the Lower Lawn, over one-hundred attendees arranged their picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and yummy snacks to view an old classic–Grease! This car themed musical, was chosen to complement our current exhibition, Future Retro: The Great Age of the American Automobile. Those who attended enjoyed the atmosphere of the warm summer night and the sounds of “Summer Loving” and “Grease Lightning” filling the air.
For those who forgot to pack a picnic because they were too excited to sing their favorite songs from the movie, The TreeCup Café served delicious treats along with beer and wine for purchase.
If you missed out on The Cummer’s first Movie Night, don’t worry because there will be more this summer! Following movies include Cars on Friday, July 19, and American Graffiti on Friday, August 16. All movies begin at dusk.
