Tomorrow kicks off the Museum’s 21st annual VSA Festival during which time over 2500 special needs students and their caregivers will visit over a four day period. The goal of VSA (also know as Very Special Arts) is to provide arts and education opportunities for people with disabilities and increase access to the arts for all. Cummer Museum Educators have developed a fantastic series of art experiences throughout the Galleries and Gardens and youth will have a chance to visit those stops for hands on activities that include collaging, printmaking, and clay, as well as a naturewalk through the Cummer Gardens
and a music and storytelling stop with Ajamu Mutima. Besides the work of dedicated Museum staff, over 1400 volunteers will give their time to ensure the execution of a successful, safe, and fun event! Citibank is celebrating it’s 20th year supporting VSA with volunteers and Bank of America, Deutsche
Bank and Florida Blue will also be sending staff to give their time this year. Although shuffling hundreds of children through a fine art Museum presents it’s own set of challenges, the impact of the experience on not only the participants but also all of the volunteers, teachers, parents and Museum staff makes for a very special, memorable, and heartwarming week on the Cummer Campus.
*Please note: The Museum and Cummer Cafe will still be open for regular business hours.
