Carolyn Cooper is one of our dedicated Docents here at the Museum. Although she is a retired teacher, she couldn’t stay away from education for long. We are so thankful that she picked the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens to dedicate her free time to.
CUMMER MUSEUM: Tell us a little about yourself.
CAROLYN COOPER: I recently retired from teaching middle and high school science for 30 years. My husband George and I have a historic home in Riverside which we spent many hours renovating.
CM: Why did you want to be a docent and how long have you been with the Museum?
CC: I heard about the program and decided it would be a great transition from teaching. I had not taken the time to learn about art but always enjoyed observing it. I have been a docent for only a year but have really enjoyed it.
CM: What is your favorite part of this job?
CC: I really enjoy the art and I have learned to look for beauty in the world. I also like showing other people the beauty of the Cummer.
CM: What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t generously donating your time to the Museum?
CC: My husband and I like to hike, bike and canoe!
