Family Activity Series: Iznik, Turkey

May

16

Now that you’ve made it from Cairo to Iznik, it’s time for the next activity on our quest. What does Iznik, Turkey have to show us? The answer is a tile lunette!

The tile lunette shown below is a half-moon-shaped mosaic made up of 16 tiles that is said to have most likely come from the palace of Piyale Pasha, an Ottoman admiral. The lunette features elements that create a saz, or “an enchanted forest.”

Create your own special lunette; it can look however you want it to look! Once you’ve created your own tile lunette, it’s time to leave Iznik, Turkey and head to Northern India!
