In Black & White: Works by Women of Vision

Oct

07

ABS 2013 - 6Since the fall of 1997, the ladies of Women of Vision have gathered monthly at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens to share their experiences in art making, memoir writing, and exploring the galleries and historic gardens. What makes these women exceptional and extraordinary is that each experiences low vision or blindness.

ABS 2013 - 5

This exhibition is designed to celebrate Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month held each October, and is a symbol for the transformative nature of art, both for the creator and the viewer. This year the women worked with only a black and white palette, using their hands and minds to create powerful works of expressive art, including paintings, prints, drawings, clay sculptures, and poetry. This artful program held at The Cummer, is observed as a national model, serves as a vehicle for personal reflections, demonstrates the communicative power of visual and literary arts, and develops accessibility awareness for all.
